Hello,
a bit about me:
Hello, my name is Marylou Fitzgerald Bryan. I started my nursing career as a certificated nurse aide (CNA), I earned my certificate as a licensed practical nurse (LPN), worked for a year in long-term care (LTC), then transitioned into the second year Register Nurse (RN) program at Lord Fairfax Community College. I am grateful for the experience of working my way up through the ranks as a nurse. Each transition has increased my knowledge and skill as a practicing nurse. My working experience has included a wide range of settings to include, a Medical/Surgical unit, a Step Down unit, Dialysis, Skilled Nursing Home Health, Personal Care Agency Manager working with the EDCD Waiver, Nursing Care Consultant working with the ID/DD Waiver, along with being a Medication, CNA and personal care aide trainer. I also have extensive experience working with newly recovering addicts and alcoholics on a detox unit. I am currently working as a Registered Nurse Care Consultant for the Office of Integrative Health (OIH) for the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).

I didn’t grow up picturing myself as a nurse, which many of my colleagues have. Nursing is a second career for me. I was a graphics artist for a military contractor for more than 20 years. Due to a serious family health emergency I was force to rethink my career path, which lead me into nursing. My graphics background has come in handy for all types of educational and training purposes. I have four independent adult children, and eight grandchildren. Currently I am living with my husband and our cat “Lucy” in beautiful rural Rappahannock County. In my free time I like to cook, swim, hike, camp, and spend time with family and friends. I am very grateful for the opportunity to return to school and complete my baccalaureates degree at Old Dominion University. The investment into my education as a nurse will be used to improve the health outcomes of the community. Thank you for taking to time to get to know me better by reviewing my website.
